This month’s Birchbox theme was Positive Force. This month the ladies at Birchbox partnered with The Estee Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Awareness campaign and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation to fund one year of breast cancer research hours. Thank you Birchbox for supporting such a worth while cause and hence this month’s beautiful bright pink box. It’s a keeper, to be used to house excess items and be put out where it can be seen.This Benefit Roller Lash Mascara was my mascara pick for this month. It was either this one or the Benefit They’re Real! Mascara. I have soooo many tubes of the They’re Real! mascara that I wanted to try something new. I like it because it is not clumpy. It goes on smooth and lifts and separates the lashes. It say’s you don’t have to use a curler but I did anyway and was pleased with the results, you can actually see my eyelashes! which I haven’t been able to say that for quite some time now. A full size tube retails for $24. I’d put value on this at about $5.
The Borghese Fango Purificante Purifying Mud Mask for Face and Body. I used this on my face and I really liked the way it made my skin feel and it smells really good, kind of clean with a just hint of mint. I typically like a mud or clay mask and this was no different. It says it is a body mask as well but I just don’t see me smearing this all over my body and sitting around for 15 ” 20 minutes while it dries so I guess for that I will never know. The only caution is that I had an Instagram friend post that she received a chemical burn from this mask so I might try a small patch test somewhere before I apply it full on to the face if you have a history of reactions to face masks. The full size of this mask is either $37 for a 5 oz size or $72.50 for a 17.6 oz jar. The size in my box was a 1 oz size so I place the value at $7.40 and that is based on the 5 oz size.This is the Davines Love Smoothing Shampoo. I did not care for this. The Davines line of products smell medicinal and soapy to me which are two scent’s I do not care for. Also, it did not help make my hair any smoother than any other shampoo. I typically use low to no lather shampoos so I didn’t care for that aspect either. I did not even use the conditioner packet because of the smell. For me scent is a real make or break factor in my desiring of a product and what will make me want to continue using a product but only if it works to do what it say it will do. The full size of this product is 8.45 fl oz and retails for $25. This sample is 2.5 fl oz so I would say valued at somewhere around $7.40, but of no real value to me if I cannot use it.This is the Vasanti Cosmetics BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvinator which translates to a facial scrub with enzyme properties. The description card states that it mimics the effects of microdermabrasion, which means I cannot use it on the majority of my face. I used this on my forehead and chin but couldn’t really tell that much of a difference. Every time I do a subscription box review for products on their respective sites I always put that I do not like facial scrubs but I still get one at least once a month from one of my subscription boxes 🙁 Anyway, the full size of this is 4.23 oz tube and retails for $34. The size I received was a 20 gm tube so I value this at about $5. But, like I said earlier, if I cannot use something it is of no value to me.The small perfume sample in this month’s box was the Gentlewoman by Juliette has a Gun which is an interesting name for a cosmetic company and it will definitely stick out in your mind. The description card describes the scent as hints of neroli and bergamot mingled with almond and lavender over a musky, sophisticated base. They lost me at lavender. Scent is a very personal choice so it is difficult for me to review it and make that review universal for everyone. So, if the scent description sounds like something you might like go for it. Me personally I do not like lavender and will not use anything that has lavender in the ingredient list but if you do then this might be for you. It is definitely an intense musky scent that screams fall and cooler weather. If it had not been for the lavender thrown in I might have actually liked the scent. The full sizes are 50 ml and 100 ml which retails for $100 and $135, respectively. Definitely not worth that much to me.So there you have it, my review of this month’s Birchbox. The total value of this month’s box was $24.80, so to me really not good value for cost considering that I really only cared for 2 out of the 5 items that was in this months box. Overall my impression of this month’s box was rather blah. The items I did not care for I will be passing on to someone who might get use of them.Birchbox is a $10 a month subscription box, plus you accumulate points after reviewing the items in your box! You’ll get 10 points per item reviewed, and 100 points are equal to $10 in the shop. Birchbox is a discovery box that will send you 5 samples or sometimes one or two full-size products each month.
