When we arrived I was very impressed by the size and amenities this VRBO had to offer. There was a room on the first floor with two very large King Size beds, as well as two more private rooms upstairs with large King Size beds. I might add that they were very comfortable to sleep in. Both of the upstairs rooms each have their own private patio areas. There is a bathroom upstairs as well as downstairs so everybody could get ready for our visit in the morning at the same time without getting in each others way. There was an additional covered patio on the floor level that had a stainless propane grill for our steaks and a picnic table.

The kitchen had modern appliances, convection microwave and coffee maker and coffee as well as any condiments you might have at home. There was also a nice dining area as well as a large living area downstairs with a large HDTV with cable and yes the place is equipped with WIFI. I brought my laptop and had some work to do on the internet so I enjoyed relaxing in the living area upstairs on a comfortable seat.

One of the first things I noticed however is that they left a 6 pack of Grand Canyon Brewing Company beer waiting for us in the fridge. As a beer drinker myself I was very happy to see a six pack of beer waiting after we completed a 4-5 hour drive from Phoenix. They make different types and flavors of beer, so Im not sure what you might get, but the type they left us tasted like Fat Tire, I might add that I actually think it was even a little bit better.

Not only that, but on the counter they had left us a $25 gift certificate for the Grand Canyon Brewing Company along with a menu. Yes they serve food as well. We were very pleased by this but never had a chance to use it however because our two day visit to the Canyon was so busy and packed with adventure.

Our first day, we got back a little bit late and my wife and I decided to head up to the strip which was just a few blocks away and with walking distance on Historic Old Route 66. And yes this part of old Route 66 is very much a tourist trap and very much what you would would expect to see on your visit. Their are plenty of old shops selling Route 66 merchandise and a few historic restaurants, gas stations, diners, restaurants and bars. I only wish we had more time to stay there so I could have spent more time on the strip as well as at the Grand Canyon Brewing Company.

The next morning I sat outside on the picnic table and was sipping on my coffee when there was a guided tour at the Grand Canyon Brewing Company. So I got to hear a little bit about the history of the company and the tour guide mentioned the rental property we were staying in as everybody waved at me and I waved back. We left early that day for the Canyon and their was a bit of traffic but not as bad as I would have expected. Actually when we were on the way a rain storm encompassed the South Rim and we started seeing the people who probably arrived early for sunrise actually started to leave so when we got there finding parking was not difficult at all as a lot of people were on the way out. This worked out to our advantage because we waited out the storm for about 45 minutes and there were not nearly as many people as you expect to see at the Grand Canyon on a Saturday in July.

After the rain cleared out, my wife and I began the trail head at the Bright Angel trail. It took a lot longer getting down then I would have expected but partly because we stopped so many times to take pictures. We made it close to half way down where there was a rest area with bathroom facilities, water and shelter. About 100 yards from there is a lookout point and this is where I filmed this video. After that we started back up the trail.

We then went to go see Desert view maybe about 30 miles away. We Got there just in time for sunset but Ideally that is probably a better viewing for sunrise. In any case it was beautiful. Also since there was quite a bit of rain activity going on that day it made the air nice and cool and provided good contrast and shade in areas that highlighted the appeal of the Grand Canyon. When it was raining hard you could barely see the Canyon but if that is the case, you probably don’t have to wait very long for the storm clouds to clear up so just be patient because it makes the views that much more beautiful to look at. Plus it cools everything down in case you are hiking the trail head.

After a long day at the Grand Canyon we finally head back to Williams, stopping for a bite to eat at a Mexican Restaurant in a near bye town on the way. Then we retired for the night and though our experience at the Grand Canyon was over our sight seeing tour was not. We decided to head East to see Meteor Crater near Winslow, Arizona and it was quite fascinating to see a 50,000 year old best preserved Meteor Crater in the World.

And of course there was one final stop. You can not travel through without “standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona, and such a fine sight to see. It’s a girl my Lord in a flat bed Ford slowing down to take a look at me.” Of course this is on Old Route 66 so there is plenty of little shops and scenes to take in as you would expect to see.
