I Read It For You! Food Storage For Self-Sufficiency and Survival (A Review)

About the Book

“With all the uncertainty in the world today, there is peace in preparing. In an emergency, you don’t want to depend on a grocery store or government agency to feed your family. Storing food assures your family’s self-sufficiency year-round and benefits your budget when you plan correctly.

This in-depth, nuts-and-bolts guide to storing food teaches you a variety of food storage methods that you can customize to meet your family’s unique circumstances including family size, tastes, ages, health concerns, income, and living conditions. This is not a generic manual on stocking dehydrated meals that have ten-year shelf lives. It’s the guide to storing foods your family loves so you can eat well no matter what challenges life throws at you.

Storing food gives you the freedom to stretch your income in tight-budget months, pack quick meals for short-notice trips, and create healthy meals without constantly going to the grocery store. Plus your stored food is available if you do experience an emergency power outage, natural disaster, long-term illness or job loss. Let this guide help you start building your self-sufficiency and food storage today.”

This book covers a LOT of material, and goes into a lot of detail doing so, but it isn’t at all overwhelming to me. There was not a single piece of information about food storage that I thought she left out, which is saying something because “Food Storage” is such a large-encompassing topic.

Even though I have very limited time to sit down and read in peace, I was able to read this book cover to cover in less than a week! That’s quite a task in itself at my household! But the reason I was able to do so is because Angela has made this book SO easy to read and incredibly engaging! I felt like Angela was sitting at my kitchen table discussing things over a cup of tea with me. ,

I also love, love, LOVE that you can download as many free food storage worksheets at you need from Living Ready Online. Each worksheet mentioned in the book is here for use at your discretion!“What I found is that storing food is so much more than an emergency plan. It is a means by which my family can be self-sufficient every day of the year, regardless of whether we have to deal with an emergency situation or not.” “Angela PaskettWhat I Learned

There were several new things I learned while reading this book. I can honestly say that even though I’ve been reading about and practicing food storage techniques for a good 2 years, I learned at least one new thing from each chapter of this book, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well Angela’s How-To sections worked. They were informative, but not overly simplified. She gives you just enough information to teach you what you need to know. I won’t spoil it all for you, but here are a couple of things I enjoyed reading and learning about that I did not know before this book:

How to make homemade survival bars (Pg. 14)

Twelve emergency Water Uses (Pg. 59)

Multiple ways to seal Mylar bags (Pg. 101)

Using a vacuum sealer to store food in PETE containers (Pg. 106)

Seasonal grocery store sales (Pg. 113)

Tips for growing and using sprouts (Pg. 134-136)

Wild Edible Plants (Pg. 154-156)

There are many, many more, but you get my point! What I Didn’t Like

This book doesn’t even deserve a section labeled “What I Didn’t Like”… There was absolutely nothing I didn’t like! Moving along…Why Should I Buy this Amazing Book? and Where Can I Get it?
