Microsoft has unveiled minimum specifications required to run its VR known as Windows Holographic on system during WINHEC event in Shenzen. Well this step explains that while other companies are announcing updates on their VR’s, Microsoft had made sure that they should announce updates about their VR’s and get their VR some hype. Last October they promised to release the minimum specification for their Windows Holographic VR headsets and this announcement shows they kept their promise and its finally there.
Microsoft VR specifications are relatively lower as compared to Oculus and it will make an impact on Oculus or others competition in market and their partner VR headsets will on integrated graphics using intel processors from Kaby Lake Series. Creator of Microsoft’s HoloLens, Alex Kipman had said in same event that this VR will for sure work with any modern computer with dedicated graphics in it.
Minimum System requirements for Microsoft Holographic are:
CPU: Intel Mobile Core i5 (e.g. 7200U) Dual-Core with Hyperthreading equivalent
GPU: Integrated Intel® HD Graphics 620 (GT2) equivalent or greater DX12 API Capable GPU
RAM: 8GB+ Dual Channel required for integrated graphics
HDMI: HDMI 1.4 with 2880 x 1440 @ 60 HzHDMI 2.0 or DP 1.3+ with 2880 x 1440 @ 90 Hz
Storage: 100GB+ SSD (Preferred) / HDD
Bluetooth: 4.0 and above for accessories.
Looking at these specifications one thing is clear that the confidence and unconcerned behavior from Microsoft end after release of Oculus or HTC ‘s VR minimum specifications clearly shows that they are able to handle their platform very well and it is in fact complementing with upcoming generations of Laptop. Microsoft is likely to be aided by third party hardware manufacturers as well and they have plans to add Chinese manufacturer 3Glasses, a company that makes VR units with highest specification in market.
Apart from 3Glasses mainstream manufacturers known names Dell, Acer, HP, Asus and Lenovo are also making products with Microsoft VR already.
