Posted by Barkerville, BC on January 28, 2014 in Employment and Contract Opportunities, Gold Rush, History Town, School Program, Travel | Barkerville’s Home Life interpretation program is looking to employ an Historical Interpreter to be the Schoolteacher in the 1870s schoolroom in Barkerville Historic Town.
The position is for 6 ½ to 8 hours a day, five days per week, for 20 weeks”from the first week of May 2014 to the end of September 2014.
The Barkerville Schoolteacher has domain over a one-room schoolhouse that will seat up to 30 “schoolchildren”. Each day, the teacher gives 3 or 4 scheduled one-hour long school lessons to the public. The lesson plans are scripted and are based on 1870s B.C. school syllabuses.
Between lessons, the schoolteacher is in the schoolhouse or in the nearby vegetable garden doing “teacherly” things and interacting with the public. He/she is knowledgeable about local and regional history and about world events as they pertain to his/her character. He/she is always in character while in costume.
The historical interpreter will be provided with character bios, scripts, historical notes, and full costume.
