Allure Beauty Box October 2015 Review

This is the Allure Beauty Box for October 2015. Received inside was the following: Bumble and Bumble All-Style Blow Dry Cream, Rituals Ginko’s Secret Ginsing & Ginkgo Biloba Hand Balm, Jouer Daily Repair Treatment Oil, Red Flower Lymphatic Phytopower Sea Cleanser & Masque, Cargo Eyeshadow in Green Bay and Kryolan Lipstick Matt in Aurora, Eos and Nike.First up we have the Red Flower Lymphatic Phytopower Sea Cleanser & Masque on the left. I was really neither here nor there on this product. While it does have a lemony-citrus scent it wasn’t too awful bad to use. The smell made me afraid my sensitive skin was going to react badly to this and it did not which was a pleasant surprise. I used this as a cleanser and not a masque as is suggested can be done, the scent IS too much for me to leave it on my face for the length of time a masque would take. It did not make my skin feel dry or tight which is a plus, however I did not like this product well enough to run out and purchase it. I will put it in my shower and finish using up the bottle I received but I will not be buying it for myself, if not for the scent, maybe, but smells can be a deal breaker for me.  Speaking of deal breakers, the Jouer Daily Repair Treatment Oil smells awful. It almost smells like it has lavender oil in it which is horrible for me. I read the ingredient list: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil,Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Bidens Pilosa Extract Borago Officinalis Seed Oil, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Gossypium Herbaceum (Cotton) Seed Oil, Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Rosa Canina Seed Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Salvia Hispanica Seed Oil &  Tocopherol. I am guessing it is the Linseed Oil that I did not like and possibly the Meadow Foam Oil. I am hyper-sensitive to botanical scents of any kind so I have not used this at all so I am sorry I cannot speak to it efficacy. All the oils sound like they would be good for your skin so maybe it would work for you but it certainly will not do for me to try it. The Red Flower Cleanser size in the box was 32.5 ml, the full size is 8.8 oz and retails for $42 so I would value this sample at about $5. The Jouer Treatment Oil retails for $48 for a 1 oz size. The sample in the beauty box was teeny coming in at 0.1 oz which places it’s value at about $4.80.Next up:This is the Rituals Ginko’s Secret Ginsing & Ginko Biloba Hand Balm. This hand balm feels really good and it does not make your hands feel oily just soft and moisturized. However once again I have a smell issue. The smell kind of reminds me of Downy Fabric Softener which is fine for clothes but I don’t care for it on my hands. The day I used it anytime my hands got too close to my face I moved them because I just do not like the scent. Sadly I will be passing this to someone who may care more for the fragrance than I did. It is a full size product which is 2.5 oz and retails for $17. If it were not for the scent I would consider purchasing it and continuing to use it as I have other hand creams that cost about the same for about the same amount of product.I typically like Bumble and Bumble products and this one is fine for what it does. All Style Blow Dry is actually a blow dry cream but since I do not blow dry my hair it really didn’t do much in the way of styling for me. It does smell wonderful like most of their products and it has a really good consistency, kind of light and silky. It did tame down my hair fuzzies for a while but over all this really didn’t do much for me. For those people who do blow out their hair it claims to do miraculous things for that., i.e. This one-step wonder creme for healthy, fine and even oil-prone hair fights frizz, protects against heat damage, and has (invisible) microfine oil-absorbing powders to extend the life of your blow dry right from the start. (lifted directly from the Bumble & Bumble site). I will use up what is in this little tube which is .5 oz so that places the value at about $3. The 5 oz size retails for $30 but there is also a 2 oz which sells for $14. I would probably recommend this product simply because the Bumble & Bumble products usually perform exactly as they claim and if it doesn’t work for you, you can always return it.This is the Cargo Eyeshadow single I received this month, there were 4 possible colors I could have received. It seems whenever this is the case I end up with some color I am just not real sure about. When I posted in my Instagram picture that I didn’t much care for the color one of the Cargo reps suggested wetting it and using it as an eyeliner. I do have brown eyes and with the gold shimmer would typically look good on brown eyes because it would bring out the golden tones usually seen in brown eyes. One tiny problem, I am 50 so I am not really sure about a shimmery eyeliner on my crepey under-eye…. on my eyelid maybe and that is a very strong maybe. I may try it using a flat top definition brush. I have decided whenever I receive my not-typically-bought-shades of things in my subscription boxes I am meant to leave my comfort zone and try something new, well maybe, that’s how I take it anyway. I would have liked the Flint (brown) or Pasadena (pinky peach) but I am grateful that I did not receive Oz, which is vibrant and looks like a very loud yellow, that I know I would have given a pass on. It is a full size single which retails for $16 each which is 0.12 oz. I have never used Cargo but when I was swatching it to show you the color I really liked the feel and silkiness of the application so I’m actually looking forward to trying it out and seeing how it looks. If it does not work for me, no harm, no foul and I’ll just pass it on to someone younger ,These Kyrolan Lipstick Matt colors in my box are named after Greek and Roman Goddesses, Aurora, Eos and Nike. These are very opaque and very rich in color. Even though these are sample size they pack quite a punch color-wise and will last through quite a few uses so long as I put them back in the little blister pack each time I get done using them. I like the cranberry red Aurora (on the right) it is an awesome fall going into winter color, they call Eos (in the middle) a tangerine but to my eyes it is a bright coral which is a color I love. The Nike (on the left end), now it is FUCHSIA! pink. This is a color I will not be wearing simply because I do not like this color and have never thought it looked good on me. These are some intense colors that wear pretty good. I would definitely recommend application with a lipstick brush and I used the my-skin color-nude lip pencil I use for every color I wear and this was no different I used it with these too. The full size retails for $19.50 each and is a 4 gram tube.So there you have it, my October 2015 Allure Beauty Box Review. All total I place the value at $45.80. I had a difficult time trying to figure a value for the lipstick samples so I left a value off of them. The box is a $15 a month subscription but they do charge tax so that makes it almost $17 a month. Out of the 6 products I received I will use 4 of them. Unfortunately the full size hand balm I will not be using so that drops the value of the box for me by $17.Until next time my lovelies… I hope my review has in some way added to your day or at least given you some information to help you form a better opinion on whether or not you may want to purchase any of these products in the future.
