Code Enforcement Division in the City of Oviedo, Florida

The primary mission of the Code Enforcement Division is to enforce the City’s codes and ordinances through education, information and voluntary compliance.  Our goal is to promote a high quality of life for our residents and visitors to live, work and play.  Code Enforcement is governed by Florida State Statute 162 which is very specific in requirements for enforcement and notification.Code Enforcement is a Division within the Development Services Department.  The Code Enforcement Division is “proactive”, meaning Code Enforcement Officers actively look for code violations as part of the normal course of their duties and take a proactive approach in addressing minor infractions before they become active violations.Additionally, the Code Enforcement Division does also receive and act on complaints from a variety of sources including citizens, businesses, and outside agencies.Code Enforcement Officers inspect and investigate every complaint to determine whether a code violation exists.  If it is determined that a violation exists, the Code Enforcement Officer will begin taking the necessary steps to attain compliance. Those steps can involve both an informal and/or formal process.  Cases that are not voluntarily brought into compliance may be presented to a Special Magistrate (judge) at a formal Public Hearing (court). The Code Enforcement Division always strives for Voluntary Compliance!
