From This Day Forward: Never Give Up (Part 5)

For those of you who read Part 1 of this series: From this Day Forward: Seek God, you may skip the first paragraph. It’s the same as last week 😀The Study

Each time we meet, our LifeGroup has dinner of some sort, then we sit around and chit chat about life for too long before we start a study of some kind that will reinforce our marriages and/or our faith. The first series we went through together was a free message series that Pastor Craig from LifeChurch teaches about building strong marriages. It is called From This Day Forward, and I would like to share the messages with you! I think these videos are fantastic, and I truly believe that this advice can help build strong, healthy marriages, as well as help crumbling marriages pull themselves together.

What have you and your spouse implemented in your marriage to stay pure this week?

I don’t have too much to say in this area. Hubby and I have been very open with each other about this subject, and both of us feel that it is not (and has not been) a problem in our marriage. We do; however, have some guidelines in place to make sure it stays that way. We aren’t so naive as to think that impurity could never creep it’s way in.

First, we do not ride in vehicles or have meals with the opposite sex. Singularly, I mean. We don’t believe there is a problem with having lunch with a group of co-workers, but Hubby having lunch with another female co-worker, just the two of them, is a no-no. Why? It’s not because I don’t trust him. I certainly do. And I’ve met all of his female co-workers! They are all great women. But again, we don’t want to be so naive as to think something could never happen to our marriage. Satan would just love to break down what we think is a strong barrier in order to destroy our marriage. There is also the matter of image here. How can I say this in as few words as possible? While I don’t care about what people think of me in many areas of my life, I DO want them to see Christ in me. In my spouse. In my family. We want our lives to honor Jesus. If another person were to see my husband having lunch with another woman, and it puts just one ounce of doubt in his or her mind that He is faithful to me, would that damage their view of us as Christians? or of Christians in general? Possibly. That is what we don’t want. Again, I want to stress that this isn’t about putting up a front. We are real people. Real human beings who make mistakes. But we don’t want honest intentions to be misconstrued as something sinful. Does that make sense? I hope I’m getting my point across.

We also have a parental monitor on our television, and plan to put a guided web browser on our computers in the near future. This is to help keep our marriage pure, but also for our son. He’s only ONE, you say? Yes, but he LOVES the remote control. It’s one of his favorite toys. One day our little family was sitting in the living room. Hubs and I were talking, not paying any attention to what was on TV, Little Man playing in the floor with the remote, when suddenly he happened to push just the right buttons and we instantly had porn on our tv! Porn! I can’t even make this stuff up. It’s all pretty hysterical now: the two of us scrambling to try and turn it off or change the channel, ANYTHING that would make it go away…making sure Little Man didn’t see it (like he’s old enough to remember anyway)… Oh, Goodness. It was a mess. Needless to say, you now need to have a 5 digit passcode to watch anything above a PG-13 rating in our home. I also think it’s never too early to have these barriers in your home if you have kids. It amazes me how much younger and younger kids are exposed to pornography, especially little boys. It breaks my heart, and I want to put as much distance between my son and those images as I possibly can. Just something else to think about! But lets watch the final video in our series, part 5!From This Day Forward, Part 5: Never Give Up

 Things to Think About
