Root the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 – CWM Flash Method ( GT- P3100/3110/3113)

The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is the second generation tablet in Samsung’s Galaxy Tab series. Samsung devices have usually been pretty uncomplicated to root, and fortunately, the situation is not too different in the case of the Tab 2 7.0. Root is required to gain access to system files, which can then be modified replaced to open up additional functionality or tweak the system performance. It is also required to run certain specialized apps which read/write to your core file system like SetCPU or Titanium Backup. This method uses acclaimed developer Chainfire’s CF-Auto-Root exploit to gain superuser access to the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (works for all 3 variants) and also unlocks the device bootloader. Without further ado, here’s a step-by-step guide which will have you holding a rooted Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 in your hands in a jiffy.

Here’s what Chainfire has to say himself on the Auto-Root method:

“CF-Root is the root for rooting beginners and those who want to keep as close to stock as possible. CF-Root is meant to be used in combination with stock Samsung firmwares, and be quickest and easiest way for your first root,”

Before you start, go ahead and download all the necessary files and tools that would need to be used to gain Superuser access on the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

Unlock & Root The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

This method will first unlock your bootloader, which means that your device will be completely wiped. Backup all your media and documents to your PC. Your contacts should be set up to automatically sync with you Google Account, if not, do make sure that they are. You can use this nifty app –

which will back up all your SMS, MMS and Call Logs to your Google account.Download and Install the Samsung USB drivers to your PC from the link above. Reboot your system once after installation. If you have KIES installed Samsung KIES already, you should already have the drivers, in which you can skip Step 2.Extract the CF-Auto-Root package for your device to the desktop. You should get a folder with three files. We are only concerned with two of them, the actual Root file which ends with a .tar.md5 extension, and the Odin3-v1.85 file, which we would be using to flash the tar fileOn your Tab, go to Settings and enable USB Debugging in Developer OptionsNow Power off your Tab completely. We will now be putting your device into Download mode or Odin Mode as it is also called. Download mode is basically a Samsung Exclusive mode which allows flashing of firmware via Odin. Odin can only communicate with Samsung devices when they are in Download Mode. To get there, press and hold these keys together: Volume Down + Home + Power till the screen turns on. Then press Volume Up to enter download modeLaunch Odin by double-clicking the Odin3-v1.85 executable file from Step 3Connect your phone to your PC using the USB data cable, preferably the one that came with the phone. Any microUSB cable should work, but I prefer to use the one supplied with the phone to avoid any unforeseen complications. You should see the message Added!! in the main Odin message box like in the screenshot below, as well as as COM Port number in the first slot directly above the message box, which tells you that Odin has recognized your device

In Odin, click the PDA button, locate the CF-Auto-Root tar.md5 file that you extracted in Step 3 , and click Start. Don’t change anything else in Odin. The Auto Reboot and Reset Time boxes would be checked by default. Leave them as they are. When the flashing is complete, your phone will automatically reboot — and when you see the Samsung logo, you can safely unplug the cable. Plus, you’ll get a PASS!! message (with green background) in the top-left hand side box in Odin.

What if Odin gets stuck: If ODIN gets stuck and doesn’t seem to be doing anything, or you get a FAIL message (with red background) in ODIN, disconnect the phone from the PC, close ODIN, remove battery, re-insert it, then repeat the procedure from Step 5.

Enjoy your Unlocked and Rooted Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 !
