Intel Pentium P6200 Processor review

The Intel Pentium P6200 is a dual core processor clocked at  .  Based upon the same Arrandale architecture as the Intel Core i3 processor, it lacks Hyperthreading, which reduces its performance by an order of 10% compared to similarly clocked Core i3 Sandy Bridge. One of the decent feature of this architecture is  the , by means of which the processor can communicate with  the memory directly.

The performance of the Pentium P6200 is better than the similarly clocked, earlier Core 2 Duo Processor.

The Arrandale based Pentium P6200 is clocked at 2.13 GHz while the earlier Core 2 T7400 is clocked similarly at 2. 16 GHz. Check out the .

The pentium P6200 has 3 MB of.  In the smart cache the two cores share the Cache and amount of the cache allotted to the individual cores can be dynamically adjusted  based upon the demand. The communication with the chipset is using fast differential DMI Bus at 2.5 GT/s. The DMI Bus replaces the older Front side Bus making communication with the peripherals free from bottleneck.

The Integrated Memory Controller in the Pentium P6200  can support a maximum of 8 GB of memory. It can support the DDR3-800 and DDR3-1066. The integrated memory controller reduces the memory latency and improves the overall processor performance.

Built with 32 nm technology, the intel Pentium P6200 has a TDP rating at moderate 35 Watts. The Pentium P6200 has integrated intel HD graphics. You can get a mid range graphics performance with the intel HD integrated graphics. Do not expect to get very good performance for high end gaming. If you are looking for a good integrated graphics performance, you may like to wait till the launch of the Sandy Bridge processor.

The nominal frequency of the graphics section is 500 MHz.  The graphics section has its independent turbo and the maximum turbo frequency supported is 667 MHz.

The Pentium P6200 bumps up the frequency of P6100 by 133 MHz ( P6100 is

a 2 GHz processor). We should therefore see a performance improvement

of the order of 5% in the P6200 as compared to the Pentium P6100.

On the down side Intel Pentium P6200 does not support the intel virtualization technology (Vt-x). The virtualization technology helps in systems than seamless transition between two operating systems.

We found very few notebooks powered by Pentium P6200

at the time of writing. Some models of

HP G62t do contain the Intel Pentium P6200 processor

Thank-you for this very useful review.

I found a laptop for sale with this processor and wondered if it was worthwhile purchasing (because I always think of pentiums as being old tech).

This review nicely addressed the problem

I AM HAPPY WITH THIS PROCESSOR. I CAN PLAY ALMOST ALL 3D GAMES ON MY LAPTOP. IT HAS INBUILT INTEL 1GB GRAPHIC CARD THAT IS TOO GOOD. WHEN I PURCHASED LAPTOP I DIDNT KNOW ABOUT IT. I WAS UNABLE TO PLAY SOME OF HD 3D GAMES ON MY PC BUT I CAN PLAY ALL THOSE GAMES ON MY LAPTOP HAVING HM55 CHIPSET P6200 PROCESSOR. ITS BEST VALUE LAPTOP… SYSTEM RATING OF MY LAPTOP ON WINDOWS 7 IS 3.9…
