If you’re a crime reader or would love to pen a thriller, Noir at the Bar could be right up your street (or dark alley with brooding potential for danger).
This event, organised by Vic Watson (check out my interview with her from a few weeks back), brings together readers and writers of crime fiction in all its guises.
It’s the first event of its kind in the north east of England, and will feature a host of authors ” both new and established ” reading snippets of their work for the audience’s delectation. There’s no requirement to be published in order to read so there’ll be plenty of opportunity to hear some work in progress from budding authors.
There’ll also be the opportunity for writers who aren’t on the bill to enter the wildcard round. One lucky person’s name will be drawn at random and they will close the evening with their reading. How cool is that?
Some more well-known names will be there, too. Queen of Newcastle Noir, Jacky Collins, shares hosting duties with Vic, while Tess Makovesky, Graham Smith and Jay Stringer (who ran similar events in Carlisle and Glasgow) will also appear.
Noir at the Bar is happening on Wednesday, 1 June at the Town Wall pub (Pink Lane, Newcastle). It starts at 7pm but space is limited so get there early to ensure you don’t miss out!
