Looking at the jobs with a military history degree that you can get after graduation is one of the smartest things that you can do. As a specialized form of history, you won’t find as many job opportunities as you would if you graduated with a basic history degree, but there are a number of jobs that will help you make a living. Military History Professor

Positions in academia are the more popular types of jobs with a military history degree that students go after later. The biggest problem that you’ll encounter is that these jobs are few and far between, which means that you must compete against other qualified applicants.

Community colleges often hire those with a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree and a lot of experience, but if you want jobs at a four-year institution, you need to finish your doctoral degree. Some colleges and universities only offer a few military history courses each year, which means that you need to work part-time or teach a combination of military and general history classes.

Military Analyst

Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. That old saying is especially true when it comes to the military. The American military survived over the years by looking at the past and studying what worked and what didn’t work.

Depending on your skills, you might even find success combining your interest in military history with a fictional story.

Museum Archivist

Working as a museum archivist is just one of the jobs with a military history degree that might intrigue you. Archivists work with museums and galleries. They cultivate collections, research the history of different items and find new items for the collection.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, archivist positions will increase by 11 percent from 2012 to 2022, and the BLS puts the median annual salary at around $44,000. Though some museums hire general archivists, you will find museums that specialize in military history, including museums dedicated to World War II battles and specific branches of the military.

Military history encompasses more than just the history of the military. You’ll also look at how branches performed during different battles and the future of those branches.
