The basic Windows 8 laptop from Toshiba, the C875-S7340 belongs to the popular Satellite series that is known to be affordable and user-friendly. As it is a basic model, one can only expect the traditional keyboard in the place of the touchscreen that most of today’s laptops sport. However, when it comes to performance, this model from Toshiba is a workhorse that can go on as long as you want it to. In addition to this quality, it sports a decent display screen that is pretty large and an optimum 6 Gigabyte random access memory that makes it quite fast. This reasonably priced laptop is worth considering for accomplishing your daily tasks.
The Toshiba Satellite C875-S7340 measures 16.2 X 10.6 X 1.3 inches and cannot be called too unwieldy for a laptop. It is slim though not as sleek as you would want it to be, and weighs just 2.49 kg making it quite easy to carry around without giving you a feeling of cumbersome lugging. The reduced weight may be attributed to the chassis that is completely made of plastic, which probably contributes to the ordinary looks of the laptop.
However, the smooth lid looks attractive enough. The keyboard and touchpad are in contrasting black and go well with the rest of the chassis that has a silvery finish. The keyboard is not designed for fast typing, and one has to just manage without complaining.
The 17.3-inch display has a resolution of 1600 X 900, which is adequate with its 720p that supports it. The LED backlit display is not harsh on the eyes and is as good outdoors as it is indoors. The speakers do not have a great sound effect, and are just about enough to he heard by a couple of people, at close quarters. Most users would find it convenient to use a headphone, to get a better sound effect.
The 640-Gigabyte hard drive at 5400 rpm has adequate storage space that an average user is looking for. It comes loaded with a lot of software from Microsoft and Toshiba, who have provided the media player and disc creator among others. This Toshiba laptop can breeze through any benchmark test, thanks to Intel processor (core i3), and the same goes for the processing speed which is quite decent.
Some people may be disappointed with just one USB 3.0 port that the Toshiba Satellite C875-S7340 sports that can be found alongside the 2.0 port on the right side. This is where you will find the HDMI and VGA outputs, along with the microphone and headphone jacks and the Ethernet port, making the area appear a wee bit congested.
You may be surprised to find another USB 2.0 port that appears on the left side of the laptop, along with DVD burner right beside it. The laptop does have a memory card reader that is placed on the front side of the laptop. Overall, for the price one pays, the Toshiba Satellite C875-S7340 is worth more for its usefulness than looks.
